United Methodist Church Primary School Triumphs in Lek U Culture Association’s Maiden Inter-School Cultural Competition
The United Methodist Church Primary School in Tombodu Town, Kamaa Chiefdom, Kono District, has emerged victorious in the first-ever Lek U Culture Association Inter-School Cultural Competition in Kono District. This landmark event, designed to celebrate and promote Sierra Leone’s rich cultural heritage among students, showcased a fierce but entertaining display of cultural prowess.
Held on January 1st, 2025, at Empire Pool in Sofedu, Kwayor, Kono District, the competition brought together seven schools from both the primary and secondary levels. These institutions competed for the prestigious title in what turned out to be an electrifying contest of traditional dance, music, and artistry. Among the participating schools were:

Following their impressive victory, United Methodist Church Primary School hosted the prize/award ceremony in Tombodu Town, Kamaa Chiefdom. This event brought together several dignitaries, including school administrators, community leaders, and representatives from Lek U Culture Association both in Kono and the USA.
The founder and CEO of Lek U Culture Association, Alhasan Fofana Bangura, addressed the gathering via telephone. He congratulated United Methodist Church Primary School on their well-deserved win and reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring the annual Inter-School Cultural Competition continues in the years to come. Describing the event as a crucial initiative in preserving and showcasing Sierra Leone’s diverse cultural identity, Bangura emphasized that such programs play a significant role in instilling cultural pride among young people.
Other prominent figures who spoke at the event included Madam Alima Sangarie, chairperson of the Lek U Culture Association USA chapter, and Christine Pitiquoi, chairperson of the Kono chapter. Both expressed their admiration for the participants, particularly highlighting the harmony in their performances and the elegance of their costumes. They encouraged students to maintain a balance between academics and extracurricular activities such as sports, cultural dance, and music, which play an essential role in fostering discipline and creativity.

The headmaster of United Methodist Church Primary School, Mr. Moripeh, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Lek U Culture Association for their efforts in organizing the competition.
